Krazy Garlik: thumbs up for crazy, thumbs down for garlic

Garlic's health benefits and medicinal properties have long been known. Garlic has long been considered a herbal "wonder drug", with a reputation in folklore for preventing everything from the common cold and flu to the Plague! It has been used extensively in herbal medicine. Raw garlic is used by some to treat the symptoms of acne and there is some evidence that it can assist in managing high cholesterol levels. It can even be effective as a natural mosquito repellent.

On its own, I don't like garlic. But when you mix it with food, somehow, it adds a hint of tang and sweetness to the food that makes it irresistible to the palate. I do eat the fried garlic with nuts, but I can't stand eating it alone. For me, it's like drinking soy sauce, meant to compliment ONLY.

When I first read about Krazy Garlik online, I was excited. The concept of  having all your dishes tossed in the power that is garlic, it is nothing more than brilliant. Garlic lovers will go crazy over this idea, while it may disappoint non-enthusiasts. Since I was krazy over food with garlic, I gave it a shot.
(thumbs up for a bold concept!)

Their bestseller is the Garlic Crispy Pata. At P595 per order, it was a bit pricey. But for a best seller, never say never.

The serving did not disappoint, it was big! But somehow, the taste did. Despite the krazy garlic bits topping, the crispy pata was ordinary. The skin was tough, the meat was dry, it was soaked in oil and there was nothing garli-ky about it, other that the garlic toppings. (Fry it in garlic oil maybe?) Garlic toppings is not crazy. Selling it for P595 is.

We ordered it with Chorizo Fried Rice (P210). It was okay.

The hero would have to be their Baba Ghanoush (P255). It was tasty, and you can taste a strong hint of garlic every single bite. Though the waiter didn't recommend it, I thought this dish well-represents their bistro feel. It's mashed roasted eggplant, with cumin, sesame paste and garlic. They serve it with pita bread. Expensive for the serving size.

On the other hand, service was great, and the place rocks. But more than a warm welcome, food should be their top priority. Incorporating garlic in their menu should come in second. Will I come back to Krazy Garlik, probably not. Abe serves a way better crispy pata for P555, their "Knockout Knuckle".
